Responsible Alcohol Retailers of Weld County is a group of concerned
on-premise and off-premise alcohol retailers in Greeley and Weld County.
We have come together with these important goals in mind:
We are committed to:
- Preventing access of alcohol to underage individuals
- Preventing high risk drinking behaviors of legal-age drinkers.
- Informing patrons that we do not condone selling alcohol to those who provide it to underage individuals.
- Working together to inform the community about our concerns and commitment to reduce underage drinking.
- Promoting the use of designated drivers.
- Aligning ourselves with the best interests of our surrounding neighborhoods and residents.
- Promoting alcohol awareness and education.
- Working together to affect legislation regarding our industry, as well as underage drinking and high-risk drinkin behavior.
- Contributing to the welfare of our community.
Why We Care.
Everyone who sells liquor, whether at a store or restaurant, wants to have a successful business. But we don’t want business from kids under the age of 21, or from anyone who intends to provide alcohol to an underage drinker. Why? Because we now know how dangerous alcohol can be to young, developing brains. We also know that kids who are 21 tend to lack the maturity to make responsible decisions about binge drinking, driving while under the influence of alcohol and even about risky sexual behavior. We want the young men and women of Weld County to avoid the dangers of alcohol.
The worst thing you can do is buy alcohol for someone who’s underage.
Some people think it’s okay to provide underage kids with alcohol—even family members! But it’s not, and my retail establishment doesn’t want any part of it. When adults buy alcohol for kids, they’re sending a message that’s it’s okay for them to drink, and it’s not. Lawmakers have decided that you have to be 21 years old to drink alcohol, and for many good reasons.
- Kids who drink are more likely to be victims of violent crimes, including
rape,
robbery and aggravated assault. - Kids who drink are more likely to be involved in alcohol-related traffic crashes.
- Kids who drink are more likely to have serious school-related problems.
- Kids
who drink are more likely to become sexually active at a younger
age, have
sex more often, and have unprotected sex. - Alcohol has a negative affect on brain development in young people.
- Alcohol
impairs coordination, slows reaction time and impairs vision,
clear
thinking and judgment.
