Ask you teen if they’ve seen the article and what they think of it. Share the realities that an arrest like this can affect your choices and opportunities in the future. Talk about the dangers of underage drinking: that it can have a negative affect on brain development. That alcohol use can impair judgement and lead to bad decisions. And that those who drink alcohol before age 21 are more likely to get pregnant or an STD. It’s also important to share what the consequences are for your child, should he or she decide to drink alcohol when they are under age 21. Remind them how easily this could happen to them, and that you only want the best for them in life.
